Dogs may be man’s best friend, but in North America, more people have pet cats than pet dogs. About 30% of households have at least one cat.

There are about 1000 different breeds of cats.
The domestic cat is the only cat species able to hold its tail up in the air while walking. Wild cats hold their tail horizontally, or tucked between their legs!
Cats step with both left legs, then both right legs when they walk or run.
Cats can run up to 31 miles per hour for short distances.
Cats aren’t hunters by nature; their mothers teach them to hunt.
If a cat is frightened, the hair stands up fairly evenly all over the body; when the cat threatens or is ready to attack, the hair stands up only in a narrow band along the spine and tail!
Cats can make 100 different sounds. Dogs can only make 10 different sounds.
Cats come in lots of different patterns and colors. The most common colors for cats are orange, gray, black, white, brown, and cream.
