Did you know elephants have been trained for over 4000 years? Statues and paintings dated around 2000 BC from the Hindu valley in present day India depict domesticated elephants. In ancient times, elephants were trained by tribal hunters. The elephants were used by rich kings to fight in wars.
Today most elephant trainers are “handlers” or “keepers” who work in zoos or safari parks. In the United States, most elephant trainers have degrees in biology or zoology before finding work as a zoo keeper.
