Farms make food for people to eat. Some farms are small family farms. Other farms cover hundreds or even thousands of acres of land. But the feeding of people is extremely important. We all need to eat. The average farmer in America today feeds 155 people.

The farm pictured here has a cow and some hens. It looks like a family farm. There are lots of different kinds of farms. Some farms have fields full of wheat. Some farms have fields full of corn. Some people have pig farms where all they have are pigs.

Here are some facts about farm animals:

The average dairy cow produces seven gallons of milk a day, 2,100 pounds of milk a month, and 46,000 glasses of milk a year.

Chickens and roosters can see light in the morning almost a whole hour before humans can. Roosters respond by crowing.

Individual sheep have a unique appearance which is recognizable to other sheep. Sheep who have lived together will recognize each other even if they have been separated for years.

Donkeys often live to be 30 years old.

Adult turkeys have more than 3,500 feathers.
