Lions are very social animals. They live in family units called prides which usually consist of one to three male lions, several lionesses (female lions) and their young.
Lionesses are the major bread winners in their families. Despite being smaller than their male counterparts (on average, female lions weigh 110 pounds less than male lions) lionesses hunt more than male lions do.
In truth, adult male lions in the wild are exceptionally lazy. They sleep or rest 20 hours a day! Lionesses band together to support their lazy mates. I’m pretty sure this is why lionesses outnumber lions in prides.
